General Information:
The single men's shelter provides bunk-beds for up to 150 single men at a time. The shelter occasionally exceeds capacity which means they put out thick mats and blankets on the floor for the overflow. Since opening in 1987, the shelter has not had to turn away any single men seeking shelter. Stockton Shelter for the Homeless provides emergency shelter, food, clothing and related services to homeless families and individuals. When our rooms are full and our beds are filled we offer sleeping mats on the floor in our family shelter, single men's shelter and drop-in center. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We never close and we don't turn away anyone seeking emergency shelter. Client services include but are not limited to:     Emergency shelter providing a safe and secure place to sleep at night     Day shelter providing a safe and secure environment during the day     Case management services in English & Spanish     Healthy meals provided daily – special dietary meals available (diabetes, etc.)     Clothing, personal hygiene items, sheets, towels, pillows, blankets, etc.     Children’s items such as car seats, playpens, diapers, formula, toys, etc.     Comprehensive assistance for pregnant mothers and newborns     Transportation assistance (emergency travel funds, bus passes and free bicycles)     Transportation to and from school for homeless children     No Child Left Behind program – all shelter children 5 – 17 enrolled in school     Transportation to and from local city and county services     Referral assistance     Drug screening and drug program access support     12 Step Program enrollment     Court/client advocacy program that turns court fines into volunteer hours     2 thrift stores providing job training, free clothing and special needs for homeless     Transitional housing program for homeless individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS     Transitional housing program for homeless veterans

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. Case management is often provided and sometimes there are laundry and shower facilities.  Meals and basic hygiene may also be offered.  Almost all day shelters provide their services free of charge. Any emergency or homeless shelter that allows clients to stay during the day is also classified under this category.
