Class of Housing/Services: Emergency shelter and transitional housing for single women and families, plus child care center.

General Information:
HOUSING Persons needing emergency shelter must first register with the Homeless Hotline at 330-452-4363. The YWCA Canton can assist with housing services through the following  housing programs: Emergency Shelter, New Beginnings, Gateway Estates, Gateway II and Stark Area Rapid Re-Housing (STARR). Emergency shelter and transitional housing for single women and families, plus child care center. This is a Non Profit Organization that provides Transitional Housing. The YWCA of the United States is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and strengthened by the richness of many beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the Association draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth. leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people. Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing.
