Class of Housing/Services: shelter and drop in center for youths.

General Information:
There are daytime Drop-In services for runaway or homeless youth age 14-24 years and overnight Emergency Shelter for runaway or homeless youth age 18-24 years All youth entering the shelter are provided a comprehensive assessment that identifies their needs and form the basis of their housing plan. Transitional age youth who cannot return home or are not ready to live independently may have the option to live at Appian House or Bissell Cottages. Drop-In Center Calli House youth shelter is designed to address the immediate shelter needs of runaway and homeless youth ages 18-24 in Contra Costa. Available 24 hours per day, there are 15 beds for youth ages 18-24. Wrap around services such as education and health care are available upon demand to aid in the stabilization, development and well-being of the youth. Additionally, Support groups, including substance abuse prevention and education: peer-led groups; and comprehensive adolescent health education workshops, are held weekly on-site. Homeless youth accessing services through our emergency shelter or through our drop-in center are provided with support services to help them return home, access transitional housing programs or live independently.

Helpful Definitions For Calli House Youth Shelter:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
