General Information:
Hours: Mondays through Fridays 8am - 4pm. Schuylkill Community Action offers various residential programs to low-income individuals, such as homeownership, apartment rentals, home repair, homelessness assistance, and transitional housing. The Bridge House Program is a transitional housing service located on the grounds of the Pottsville Housing Authority at Laurel Terrace, Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Bridge House provides comprehensive services to persons facing long-term homelessness and provides a supportive, safe environment for adults and children. Bridge House is funded by the Schuylkill County Board of Commissioners through the Schuylkill County Block Grant Programs Office. Prospective residents undergo a thorough screening process prior to enrolling the Bridge House Program. Once enrolled, clients receive goal-oriented services designed to improve their self-sufficiency. Active involvement by program participants in goal planning and implementation helps promote the goals of the program. The supportive environment enables clients to develop financial, emotional and physical independence. Bridge House staff offer assistance for guests and their families in finding permanent housing. Bridge House contains twelve (12) apartments, each with a private bathroom, living room, kitchenette and closet. Bridge House is a safe, secure environment free of abuse, drugs or alcohol. Guests remain at Bridge House from three (3) to twelve (12) months. The Bridge House Program provides a stable alcohol and drug free living environment for victims of domestic violence, persons with low income, and individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. The Bridge House Program provides a comprehensive application of services to assist individuals to become self-sufficient. What are the eligibility guidelines for Bridge House? 1.     Must be a resident of Schuylkill County.   2.     Must be in need of permanent housing.   3.     Must be in financial need (at or below 125% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines).   4.     Must be assessed by a human service agency and referred to the Bridge House Program by that agency. Residents must abstain from all use of drugs and alcohol while residing at Bridge House

Helpful Definitions For Bridge House Program - Transitional Housing:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
