General Information:
Gabriel House offers transitional housing to women and young children who have been homeless. In addition, case management and individual counseling and career information is offered. There is also assistance in procuring permanent housing. Sixteen apartments are available; 3 two bedroom, 2 efficiencies, and 11 one bedroom. Each apartment is self sufficient and furnished. There is a community room with a computer, television and VCR, where group meetings also take place. There is a laundry room. Residents are referred from agencies that confirm the resident is homeless. Residents are interviewed before being accepted and there is zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol. Each resident is responsible to pay rent that is 1/3 of their income or $100 a month (whichever is more). They are also responsible for their own food although there is food donated which is available to all. A Case manager is available during business hours and is on call for emergencies. The building is protected by an alarm system and voice activated entry system.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.
