Hotline for Homeless Families: 714-647-7534 For over 25 years, Thomas House Temporary Shelter has provided transitional housing for homeless families with children. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment and the resources necessary for homeless families to remain together while empowering them to become independent and self-sufficient. For most families in Orange County, homelessness was not caused by substance abuse or mental illness. You can make a positive difference and lasting impact that will enable Thomas House to provide services and support to families, such as: - Life Skills Classes: parenting, budgeting, nutrition, self-esteem development - Employment Counseling: resume, computer training, job search assistance, interview preparation, business apparel sources, ESL classes - Housing, medical & dental care, transportation assistance, off-site child care - On-site individual and family counseling - Children's program: homework assistance, arts and crafts, birthday and holiday parties - Most importantly, keeping parents and children together in an environment that will provide an opportunity for a new beginning.

Helpful Definitions For Thomas House Temporary Shelter :
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
