General Information:
The Transitional Housing Program and the DAEOC Domestic Violence/Homeless Shelter have been encompassed to create one program, the DAEOC Homeless Project. This program is operated with funding provided by the Missouri Housing Trust Fund (MHTF) and the HUD Emergency Shelter Grant.     Transitional Housing is defined as housing from 30 days to 2 years in which supportive services are provided to prepare homeless families for independent living and economic self-reliance. DAEOC currently operates six homes for this purpose in Sikeston, MO. A professional staff provides case management and other required intervention services linking the families occupying these homes with expensive supportive services in the community.     The Domestic Violence/Homeless Shelter consists of six units. the shelter provides a temporary place to stay for 30 days. A professional staff provides the individual/families with support services in the area to help prepare them for independent living after their 30-day stay.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. Usually there is a maximum stay of 3 months or less. Many of these shelters ask their clients to leave during the day. Meals and other supportive services are often offered. 3 times out of 5 these shelters offer their services free of charge.
