CREATE is a community-based nonprofit organization which was initiated in 1970. It strives to coordinate a full array of services to combat the effects of poverty and hopelessness in the Harlem community. The Franciscans supplied the seed funds, but CREATE has striven to improve the condition of the community by using federal, state, city and private funds to combat the underlying causes of poverty by offering services to people of a variety of ages and conditions.
