Class of Housing/Services: Temporary housing program

General Information:
Office Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. St. Stephen Housing Association (SSHA) is a temporary housing program designed to address the needs of homeless families with children by providing affordable housing with support services to help families move toward economic stability. Our objective is to provide the support necessary to ensure that every family that enters our housing program will transition into permanent housing. Families served by St. Stephen Housing Association come from a wide array of backgrounds. Some have been homeless for years, others for just a few months. Some are new to the country or state, others are Washington natives. What is true for all, though, is that they have experienced barriers to finding permanent housing. These include poor credit or housing history, lack of sufficient income to pay market rate rent, family crises that have caused instability, and unaddressed mental health issues. Many have experienced domestic violence. Preference is given to families whose current situation includes one or more of these substantial barriers to securing permanent housing. Families are referred to our program through King County's Family Housing Connection. The following services are available to residents:     Temporary housing focusing on a rapid return to stable housing     Professional social workers (SSHA Case Manager) who work with families to overcome barriers     Compassionate volunteers     Life skills guidance that includes:         Money management         Parenting skills         Goal achievement         Healthy relationships To be eligible for our program, families must:     be homeless     have at least one child under the age of 18 living with them.     be low-income, with income that is 30% or less of King County median income adjusted for household size (for example, a family of four   must earn less than $26,400).     pass drug screening tests.     agree to participate with a case manager and work on goals that reduce their barriers to permanent housing.
