YWCA Greater Memphis is proud to announce the merger of Memphis Family Shelter with our organization. Founded in 1992, Memphis Family Shelter is a 16-unit, state-of-the-art facility providing transitional housing for women and children who would otherwise be homeless. The majority of these mothers have gone on to find gainful employment and permanent housing.
How We Help:
Emergency shelter, court advocacy and other services for victims of domestic violence and their children helps them build new lives free of abuse.
    Free specialized job training in the skilled trades for women, men and young adults helps individuals become self-sufficient.
    The acclaimed Common Ground race relations program brings people of all races together for conversations on race to create communities in action.
    Affordable, quality childcare for school-age children gives working parents peace of mind as they provide for their families.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.
