Class of Housing/Services: Shelter for runaway at risk youths ages 12 to 17 years old, also provides Transitional Housing.

General Information:
Hours: 7 days a week, all hours. Anchor House Shelter is a 24 hour program for runaway, homeless and at-risk youth ages 12-17 in Trenton, New Jersey.  Runaway and homeless youth have walk-in access to the program 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The shelter’s primary purpose is to meet the immediate needs of runaway and homeless youth and their families, and to reunite them as quickly as possible. Anchor House works intensively with youth and their families to stabilize their crises and improve family relationships. Anchor House services include crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, temporary shelter, food and clothing, advocacy, outreach, and support groups.  When family reunification isn’t possible, Anchor House works with the youth to find a safe, alternative place to live.  All services are free.   Transitional Housing Anchorage Transitional Living Program for young adults who eighteen to twenty-one years of age (609-989-1625). Anchorage Transitional Living Program- provides residential services to homeless youth ages eighteen to twenty-one to ensure their successful transition to independence. The program’s goal is to help youth develop the skills they need to be employed, to encourage them to enroll in continuing education, and to obtain community resources, appropriate medical care, financial assistance, and behavioral health services.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
