Class of Housing/Services: Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter

General Information:
The Hope For Youth Shelter provides a safe, inclusive, supportive and secure environment for all Suffolk County youth between the ages of 12 and 20 who find themselves in crisis and need a haven. The Runaway and Homeless Shelter is a coed, short term, nine bed facility. The Shelter provides a safe and therapeutic environment to assess the safety, medical, and treatment needs of the youth. The goal of this program is to plan with the family for reunification when appropriate and/or other more permanent resources that can provide permanent housing to the youth. Length of stay can be anywhere from a day upwards to 60 days. The program provides support services to all residents 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year for up to 60 days.

Emergency Homeless Shelters both provide short term relief for the homeless and low income persons. Usually there is a maximum stay of 3 months or less. Many of these shelters ask their clients to leave during the day. Meals and other supportive services are often offered. 3 times out of 5 these shelters offer their services free of charge.
