Class of Housing/Services: year round day warming center.

General Information:
The Ray of Hope Day Center is a year round extended service of the MACOMB COUNTY WARMING CENTER.  We opened our doors in April 2006 in an effort to meet the needs of our homeless citizens that we were unable to fully address in the framework of our emergency warming shelter.  The primary purpose of the RAY of HOPE is to provide resources to the homeless that enable them to gain a foothold, and return to society as a productive, contributing individual.    Services:     Referrals to the appropriate agencies for resources that can help individuals break the desperate and ongoing cycle of homelessness. You would be surprised at the number of people who just don't know where to begin or which agencies to approach.     On-site representatives from these agencies at specified dates and times.     The day center address can be used for mail to be delivered and secured   until a guest is able to retrieve it. Homeless people need a stable mailing   address to receive documents and official business communications.     A telephone is available for official business. Guests can use the day center phone number when filling out job applications. Messages are taken 5 days a week and guests may phone in to check messages during regularbusiness hours. This is a critical service when guests are submitting job applications.     Guests receive assistance in filling out agency forms. If you have encountered the forms required for government programs, you understand why this is a necessary service!     Guests receive assistance in obtaining valid, state of Michigan identification and birth certificates. These documents are absolutely necessary to obtain housing, employment and/or job training.     On-site pastoral and spiritual counseling is available from local clergy.     Assistance with transportation. Bus tickets are not issued unless a guest can show a legitimate need. Examples: Job interviews, medical appointments further than two miles away. Tickets, when available, are provided to get back and forth to work until the first payday. All requests are verified by staff.     Assistance with medical, dental and mental health services.     Assistance finding employment and job training. Ray of Hope’s mission is to provide opportunities to move into secure and productive lifestyles.  In order to use our facilities, guests MUST be actively participating in activities designed to restore them to their place in productive society.
