Class of Housing/Services: Domestic violence Shelter

General Information:
Valley Oasis is a community based organization dedicated to eliminating social and domestic violence and homelessnessthrough community awareness, intervention, prevention, safeshelter and supportive services. The 60 day emergency shelter is open 24 hours a day it has a 65 bed capacity with an onsite childcare facility. The shelter has been able to provide services to men, women, and children of all ages who are victims of domestic violence . Valley Oasis has provided shelter to domestic violence victims from around the world due to  being one of the first shelters in the country to provide services to men.   Transitional Housing OASIS HOUSE (Transitional Housing I) 2 year program located on shelter grounds. It provides 1 year of on-going case management services to eligible shelter residents. STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT (Transitional Housing II)  is our offsite program. It is also a 2 year program with 1 year of on-going case management. Residents that are accepted into either program must demonstrate the necessary skills to maintain a household on their own, without close supervision, and be self sufficient. Homeless Services n January 2005, Valley Oasis was selected as the lead agency for Homeless Solutions Access Center. This program is a supportive services only project that provides supportive services to homeless families and individuals in the Antelope Valley. Its purpose is to assist individuals with basic needs and link them to the Valley's homeless continuum for the supportive services they need to put a permanent end to their homelessness. In March 2014 the homeless program was awarded the First 5 L.A grant, a program to assist in housing a homeless family with at least one child between the ages of 0-5.

Helpful Definitions For Valley Oasis Shelter:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
