Class of Housing/Services: Provides an array of programs and services including shelter and recovery, homeless assistance.

General Information:
Step by Step Ministry is a 501 c) 3) nonprofit organization that provides programs and comprehensive services. Our mission is to shelter and empower women seeking recovery from addiction, homeless, poverty, domestic abuse, lack of employment and outreach to ex-offender women seeking a new way of life.   Step 1 Our staff helps residents obtain South Carolina ID and Social Security cards, apply for public assistance where appropriate, and deal with debt, such as child support, that they may have incurred while in prison.   We support them in making court appearances, reporting to parole officers, and meeting the conditions of their parole or probation.   Most importantly, we embrace them in developing a plan for their sobriety, helping them find a sobriety sponsor, and regularly participate together in community support group meetings.   Residents at Step by Step are required to attend residential education classes.   Setp 2 Once these basic needs have been met, Step by Step assists women in thinking about their futures, encouraging enrollment in higher education/GED Coursework, to become established in greater opportunities for future employment & career advancement.   We have partnered with nearby businesses that assist us on job placement to earn living income wages.   We have relationships with agencies and programs to help our women gain self sufficiency through provided workshops. Community Works Carolina recently opened a credit saving institution that focuses on low to moderate income earners.     For women with children, we help begin the often long and difficult process of rebuilding strong, healthy relationships with their children, and regaining custody when appropriate.   Step 3 Our residents stay at Step by Step can be for 90 days or up to 180+ days if needed to build a strong foundation for independence.   We assist residents in searching for permanent housing and in establishing an independent, drug and crime-free lifestyle to regain independence from re-offending.   Many residents participate in leadership roles in our community to build confidence and skills advocating for themselves and others.
