Class of Housing/Services: Transitional housing to homeless women and children in Nassau County.

General Information:
Provides emergency food, clothing, and transitional housing to homeless women and children in Nassau County. Provides support counseling, advocacy and networking with multiple agencies including assistance with entry/re-entry into the job market. Additional services include case management and crisis intervention. In addition to the housing services offered at our five residences, Bethany House has a series of programs designed to meet the additional needs of women and families and the special needs of some individuals. 24/7 has been designed by Bethany House to serve the special needs of individuals for whom the crisis of homelessness adds an unbearable burden to an already painfully difficult existence. Individuals and families struggling with psychiatric impairments, substance addictions, or AIDS-related illnesses, as well as numerous frail elderly women, are among those whom Bethany feels need extra nurturing and support on a 24/7 basis.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing.
