Class of Housing: Women's shelter and services.

General Information:
The North County Women’s Shelter advocates on behalf of domestic violence victims in a number of ways other than simply providing shelter. The Community Counseling Program, School Counseling Program, and support groups counsel hundreds of survivors each year. One of the more utilized programs at the agency, the Temporary Restraining Order Clinic, helps victims apply for protection orders against their violent aggressors. All services are bi-lingual and bi-cultural. Every human is entitled to a life free from fear and threat, and the North County Women’s Shelter Program helps San Luis Obispo County victims work through the difficult task of making sense of a life altered by violence. The North County Women’s Shelter provides women and their children with a safe, confidential space for healing and recovery. Case managers can also make safe arrangements for male victims and their children suffering from domestic violence. Families who live in the shelter receive personalized care and advocacy during their stay. Caring, trained staff members strive to meet every family’s needs during times of fear and uncertainty. During their stay in the North County Women’s Shelter, residents participate  in a comprehensive trauma management routine that incorporates multiple aspects of a successful recovery including: intensive counseling, support groups, case management, legal advocacy, and provision of basic human needs like food and clothing. Case Managers evaluate each victim’s circumstances and discuss shelter rules and dynamics on a case by case basis. Referrals and case management are offered to every victim, even those who do not stay in the shelter. Services are available to all victims, without regard to race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or disability. If you or someone you love is in need of shelter from abuse in San Luis Obispo County, please call our crisis managers at (805) 226-5400 or toll free (855) 5-SHELTER.
