General Information:
Homeless services and shelter. 34-bed emergency shelter to assist homeless. The Clinton County Homeless Shelter can provide emergency shelter for up to 38 men, women and children each night. We maintain three different properties: Women and Children's Shelter, Men's Shelter and the Darleen Myers House which houses the shelter's administrative offices and our 24-hour food pantry. The Darleen Myers House is located at 390 West Main Street in Wilmington. This location houses our administrative office along with our 24-hour food pantry. It is staffed Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 3:00pm. The Women and Children's Shelter is located at 36 Gallup Street in Wilmington. This property is our flagship location and first opened in 1988. It houses women, children and also has a couple of family rooms. The Men's Shelter is located at 30 Gallup Street in Wilmington which is next door to our Women's and Children's Shelter. It opened in 2008. Those in need of emergency shelter can call the shelter at 937-382-6272 or stop by the Darleen Myers House during the week or the Women and Children's Shelter. 24-Hour Food Pantry Due to various generous donations from individuals, churches and businesses, we are blessed to offer a 24-hour food pantry for those in need. Our food pantry is located in our administrative offices at the Darleen Myers House located at 390 West Main Street in Wilmington. It is staffed Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 3:00pm. Those in need can come to the food pantry and donations can be dropped off during these times. For all other times, the staff at the Women and Children's shelter located at 36 Gallup Street in Wilmington can access our food pantry or accept donations when the Darleen Myers House is closed. Rapid Rehousing The shelters ability to help those in need depends on funding from various sources. The Homeless Crisis Response Program Grant ("HCRP") is a major source of support for the shelter. The goal of the HCRP is to prevent individuals and families from experiencing homelessness and, when homelessness does occur, rapidly move them from emergency shelter into permanent housing. The funding from the grant enabled the shelter to find homes for residents and also keep individuals keep in their households who were at risk of becoming homeless.
