General Information:
Provides a family homeless shelter and transitional housing. HHB provides emergency housing for homeless families in Suffolk County through a contract with the Suffolk County Department of Social Services (SCDSS). HHB operates congregate emergency housing. Staff are available 24 hours per day.  The primary objective is to assist homeless families to find and maintain permanent housing. In addition, HHB assists families to establish a community network through referrals to  Health services Mental health and substance abuse treatment Educational resources Vocational/employment resources Children's services HHB also offers families a variety of support services to assist them towards self-sufficiency: Obtain food and clothing Life skills development Parenting skills training GED home study Recreation and socialization Benefits advocacy Resume writing and job search

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. Usually there is a maximum stay of 3 months or less. Many of these shelters ask their clients to leave during the day. Meals and other supportive services are often offered. 3 times out of 5 these shelters offer their services free of charge.
