Certain guidelines must be met and followed and are discussed before joining program. At each house teaching includes learning tasks such as cooking, laundry, sewing, cleaning,and budgeting. The Key Foundation, Las Vegas, Nevada, is a 25 year-old veterans service organization. We are the oldest continuously operating local veterans service organization in Las Vegas. In addition, the foundation is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The foundation was incorporated in Nevada in February, 1991. The organization was founded by U.S. military veterans, for the benefit of Las Vegas military veterans in need. The foundation assists in many ways. It currently owns three free-standing homes in Las Vegas, along with five mobile homes, that can provide transitional housing to homeless and/or unemployed veterans—up to twenty-eight and any given time. In addition, the foundations directors work with various other local charitable organizations, and with Nevada Job Connect, to assist unemployed veterans with not only job placement, but additional training, when possible, and direct financial assistance for transportation and State of Nevada and local licenses for employment.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.
