General Information:
Provides supportive housing for up to 24 months on-site and in scattered apartments in Broward County for homeless youth under the age of 21 years old. Child care is provided through referral to Family Central. The demand for emergency shelter currently exceeds our financial capacity, and we have waiting lists in both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. We ask all referral sources, e.g. law enforcement personnel, social service representatives, pastors, teachers, and guidance counselors, as well as youth and parents seeking help to call ahead to determine if a bed is available. Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.
