HEP is a registered 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Our mission is to provide homeless and very low-income individuals and families with housing, food, clothing, and support services necessary to obtain self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.As one of the oldest and largest providers of housing and support services to the homeless in Pinellas County, HEP has been helping to build hope and transforming the lives of families and individuals who are homeless since 1986.WHAT WE DOAt HEP we offer an array of services to empower homeless individuals and families to end their cycle of homelessness, increase self-sufficiency, and improve health outcomes.We provide 300 beds of supportive housing: emergency and transitional housing for the temporarily homeless and permanent supportive housing for disabled individuals and families. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, supportive housing is proven to have powerful impacts, ending chronic homelessness for individuals who may also be living with a disability, mental illness, or an addiction.Supportive housing benefits people who shuffle between shelters, the streets, and hospital emergency rooms and gives them the tools needed to become self-sustaining. Supportive housing saves public funds and helps to end the vicious cycle of homelessness.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.Supportive Housing Programs that provide an alternative living arrangement for individuals who, because of age, disability, substance abuse, mental illness, chronic homelessness or other circumstances, are unable to live independently without care, supervision and/or support to help them in the activities of daily living; or who need access to case management, housing support, vocational, employment and other services to transition to independent living.
