24-Hour Hotline: (888) 299-4673 Domestic Violence Shelter serving northeastern Allegheny, northwestern Westmoreland, and the southern portions of Butler and Armstrong counties Emergency 30-Day Shelter Our confidential and secure shelter provides a 30-day safe place to female victims (and their children) of DV experiencing homelessness or to those experiencing homelessness. Advocates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist the guests in support, education & options as well as provide information & referral to community resources. Weekly education-based life skills & goal planning groups are available to assist the guests in their empowerment.   Transitional Housing Our Transitional Housing Program provides one-year supportive housing to female victims (& their children) of DV experiencing homelessness or to those experiencing homelessness. Weekly education-based life skills & goal planning groups are provided to aid in the process of becoming self-sufficient & obtaining permanent housing by the end of their year stay. Program participants must continue their education or become employed by month two in the program. Participants must also be able to pay a 30% (of their income) monthly program fee.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.Supportive Housing Programs that provide an alternative living arrangement for individuals who, because of age, disability, substance abuse, mental illness, chronic homelessness or other circumstances, are unable to live independently without care, supervision and/or support to help them in the activities of daily living; or who need access to case management, housing support, vocational, employment and other services to transition to independent living.

Day Shelters supplement homeless and low-income people when the shelter their staying in only offers shelter on an overnight basis. Case management is often provided and sometimes there are laundry and shower facilities.  Meals and basic hygiene may also be offered.  Almost all day shelters provide their services free of charge. Any emergency or homeless shelter that allows clients to stay during the day is also classified under this category.
