General Information:
Fresh Start is a transitional shelter that empowers homeless women to change their lives by recognizing and utilizing their strengths to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency! Fresh Start, Inc. is a non-profit agency located in Lincoln, Nebraska.   When women are homeless, there are many contributing factors. When women are on the path back home, Fresh Start is there to contribute to their success. Fresh Start is more than a shelter, it's a goals program designed to support women who are working diligently to improve their lives.    You can stay at Fresh Start up to 1 year. We ask for a minimum of 90 days.   Fees/Costs (rates as of July 2016, call for updated rates) If you do not have any kind of income you will not have to pay program fees. When you get a source of income such as a job or start receiving benefits (unemployment, SSI, SSDI, SNAP, etc) you will be required to pay fees. Fresh Start has two types of program fees: the sliding scale fees and the house fund. The sliding scale is 33% of the resident’s income towards program fees. The fee is based on the NET pay. This fee does not exceed $233 per month. House fund can be paid one of two ways: $25 cash/check or residents receiving SNAP benefits (i.e.”food stamps”) may make a voluntary contribution of one third of their benefits. There is also a self-sufficiency fund; it is a required means for saving money for departure from Fresh Start. It is 10% of your net income and it is deducted from your net wages before program fees are calculated. If you wish to add additional money, it can be added at any time.
