General Information:
The mission of St. Matthew’s House has been to help those who, through circumstances in their lives, need a hand up. All of the ministries and programs at St. Matthew’s House are case managed, through love and discipline, to address the underlying issues that prevent the clients from achieving independence and reconnection with God, their families and their sense of purpose. Emergency / Transitional Housing Housing more than 150 people and feeding more than 450 every day. St. Matthew’s House is a part of recovery, not a permanent place to live. Our goal is to prepare each person to leave St. Matthew’s House equipped to transition from a homeless lifestyle to self-sufficiency. Image: Emergency / Transitional Housing | St. Matthew's House - Naples, FLWhen SMH residents enter our Emergency/Transitional Housing Program, they subsequently submit themselves to our rules and regulations, which in turn lead to the self-respect that comes from accountability. We have a no-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. Our program offers compassionate, disciplined counseling and guidance to each resident’s physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges. Residents have access to referrals for their medical, mental health and substance abuse needs. We partner with many key organizations including NCH, David Lawrence Center and the Neighborhood Health Clinic. Clientele meet weekly with a case manager to set goals and a plan of action. They also must attend daily meetings seven days a week to assist them on their road to self-sufficiency.

Helpful Definitions For St. Matthew's House:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
