The Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST) is a group of participating congregations that open up their facilities to the homeless, one week per year at each location, so that the entire year is covered. Some weeks shelter is provided at two churches so that capacity of about 60 persons is maintained. Volunteers and staff provide transportation, meals, and assist the homeless to plan for and seek permanent solutions to their situation. Shelter stay is limited to 90 days (per year) and every person is included in the CAP, “Choose A Path” program. These persons receive intensive case management, counseling, and advocacy services. MCREST is a cooling station in the summer and a warming center in the winter, and assists with Prescription co-pays and Housing Assistance. New programs JOURNEY HOME for families and OPEN DOOR for adults provide funding and supportive services to end or prevent homelessness.
