General Information:
Southwest Safehouse provides up to 6 weeks of emergency shelter for battered women and their children. The initial length of stay is up to 6 weeks. For some clients who qualify, the shelter provides an extended stay program by application and review which could allow a family to stay for up to an additional 3 months. Women or families accepted in the extended program pay $30 a week and must work at least 30 hours a week. The initial 6 weeks are paid for on the barter systems through additional chores. Each client is expected to cook dinner once a week for the entire group and is assigned one to two daily chores. The shelter has the capacity to house up to 20 women and children at a time.
