Class of Housing/Services: Emergency shelter for homeless women and women with children.

General Information:
The Emergency Overfow Shelter Program is the only shelter in Birmingham open 24 hours a day for women and women with children who cannont access other shelters after normal business hours or who do not qualify because of mental illness and/or active substance abuse. Permanent supportive housing for disabled or mentally ill women. Case management and counseling. Beds: 36 emergency shelter, 8 permanent supportive housing.

Helpful Definitions For First Light - For Women And Children:
Supportive Housing Programs that provide an alternative living arrangement for individuals who, because of age, disability, substance abuse, mental illness, chronic homelessness or other circumstances, are unable to live independently without care, supervision and/or support to help them in the activities of daily living; or who need access to case management, housing support, vocational, employment and other services to transition to independent living.
