General Information:
Serving Meals Every Day At the Rescue Mission, we believe that no one in our community should go hungry. That is why our Food Service Center in Syracuse serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the year to anyone who needs one. Altogether, we serve about 700 free meals a day and nearly a quarter million meals a year. A Refuge Day and Night The Alice C. Barber Day Center and Kiesewetter Emergency Shelter operates around the clock. The day center is an entry point to Rescue Mission services, including our emergency shelter. It has an employment and education resource center, a health services wing, public bathroom with shower, and a tech station where visitors can access the internet. The day center is open to the public 7 am to 5 pm daily. Phone number: 315-472-2324 ext. 5225 or ext. 5226 The 183-bed Kiesewetter Emergency Shelter contains eight dormitories, including 40 beds for women. Overnight guests can access the day center’s employment and education resource center, tech station and other resources after hours. Offering Affordable Housing Finding quality, affordable permanent housing is often a barrier for those working to leave homelessness behind. Rescue Mission staff help place hundreds of individuals into permanent homes in the community every year. Also, the Mission offers its own permanent housing options in response to the great need. Our Crossroads Adult Home provides supportive living for 59 residents. The Mission also maintains a 28-bed permanent residence on campus. In 2015, community partners helped the Rescue Mission renovate two dilapidated houses into permanent homes, creating quality, affordable housing for nine formerly homeless individuals. Mobile Outreach Whether someone is coming through our doors for the first time, or trying to survive on the streets, the Rescue Mission meets individuals where they are. Our Homeless Outreach Service is a mobile unit that reaches out to individuals experiencing homelessness, offering to bring them to shelter, and providing food, water, clothing, blankets and other support.
