It takes a considerable amount of effort to start as a new volunteer without prior knowledge but anyone with Internet access, a phone line and good communication skills can excel. We will support you every step of the way providing you with individual feedback and advice to assist you with your work.
As a volunteer you can help us expand our national database which helps the the less fortunate find the shelter they need. Following are the typical responsibilities of a volunteer:
1. Search for housing programs
(refer to Tutorial: Types of Housing Programs & Tutorial: Searching for Housing Programs)
2. Contact programs by email and/or phone for details not listed on the Internet
(refer to Tutorial: Gathering Information)
3. Submit the information on housing programs you have found to Shelter Listings.
(refer to
Tutorial: Submitting a New Listing)
As of December 2008 no one has been compensated for work relating to Shelter Listings. Our success relies heavily on dedicated volunteers eager to make difference.
