General Information:
Center for Victims provides an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence who are in need of shelter and safety as a result of a current domestic violence situation. Victims and their children are provided with a safe and supportive environment to begin recovering from the crisis. Staff works with the victim to develop a personalized safety plan and links them to a host of supportive domestic violence services.   Center for Victims has a Transitional Housing Program designed for female victims of Domestic Violence and their children. The program varies from a 12 to 24 month stay, during which clients receive comprehensive case management and supportive services focused specifically on the individual and unique needs of each client. These services include counseling, safety planning, goal planning, referrals to appropriate services and assistance obtaining permanent housing. The goal of the program is to prepare each client for a safe and self-sufficient lifestyle, free of violence and abuse. Everyone can be affected by crime – women, men, and children--and all can find help at Center for Victims. We offer a complete continuum of care for those harmed by domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, child abuse, physical assaults, homicide, and other types of violence and crime.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
