General Information:
Oxford House aims to provide supportive, affordable housing for all individuals recovering from chemical dependency in Madison County. By promoting independence and personal responsibility, we hope to mitigate relapse in substance abusers. Each house is self-run by tenants and is financially independent.  The goal of Oxford House is to ensure every recovering individual in the Huntsville area has access to quality housing and a supportive environment. Oxford House provides affordable housing for individuals who are recovering from chemical dependency. Each house is self-run by tenants and is financially independent. The only requirement of residents is that they maintain an alcohol and drug free environment. Tenants sign an agreement to maintain an alcohol and drug free environment, follow house rules, and participate in weekly house meetings. Residents are not monitored and are free to come and go in accordance with democratically voted house rules. All bedrooms are furnished. A fully equipped kitchen area is provided. An on-site washer and dryer are available for shared use by house residents. The Oxford model operates on the concept of group accountability and is democratically run by residents. Each house is financially self-supported by the tenants. House meetings take place once every week with mandatory attendance by each tenant. All household chores are communal, and decided on at weekly meetings. A coordinator facilitates the schedule and provides polite reminders. The weekly meeting is the place to resolve disputes among the “family” and a place to work together to keep recovery at the heart of all house operations. The system of operation for each self-run, self-supported recovery house depends upon the election of house officers and a weekly house meeting to decide issues and follow the procedures necessary to keep a house functioning well. Residents are expected to pay their weekly share of expenses on time including their rent. Failure to pay expenses each week is grounds for immediate eviction as it jeopordizes the operation of the house. Part of the recovery process is consistently taking care of responsibilities both social and financial. How to Apply Oxford House is open for all recovering individuals who have a desire to stay sober. Interested applicants should call 931-639-7191, email: oxfordhousehsv@gmail.com
