Passages' halfway house program emphasizes attaining job skills and/or pursuing educational goals. Men in this program must attend five hours of structured programming each week, including group sessions, individual counseling, job skills training and special needs of men in recovery.
In the extended care track, the men spend 15 hours a week in structured programming. In addition to the components listed above, the program includes family counseling, anger management, living skills and special issues appropriate for recovery.
Assessment and Intake
To be referred to Passages, a client must have completed primary treatment. Referrals to Passages can be made by counselors from social service agencies, treatment centers, court systems, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists or members of the recovery community. Self-referral or referral by family members may also be appropriate.
The daily rate includes room, board and program costs; medical costs are not included. Insurance and assistance programs may cover some of the costs. Passages administration can check into this for you if needed.

Halfway Housing helps transition individuals and families from shelters or homelessness to permanent housing. Length of stay is usually anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Residents are often required to pay at least 30% of their income toward program fees. Sometimes the money they pay in fees is returned to them when they leave. Any emergency or homeless shelter that allows their clients to stay more then 6 months is also classified under this category.
Oftentimes halfway houses also assist in the treatment of substance abuse and/or alcohol and drug detox. Speak with the halfway house to see if this applies.
