General Information:
The Athens Housing Authority continues to look at affordable housing differently than most people. We see affordable housing as a way to provide stability for families whether they are just starting out or entering retirement. We work to ensure the needs of the families we serve while assisting the community with implementing long-term goals for affordable housing. Public Housing: We accept applications for housing year round; however, we do have a waiting list. The waiting list is based on the appropriate bedroom size for the family.  Our waiting list will only be closed in accordance with Athens Housing Authority policies and procedures, which allow for public notification. Although many housing authorities manage the Section 8 Program in their communities, the Athens Housing Authority does not. Affordable Homownership program In an effort to offer more affordable housing choices, the Athens Housing Authority offers homeownership opportunities for families of various income levels.  Our ACT I Homes program is for families with moderate incomes while our Protectors program was recently established for families with higher incomes with our newest development - Savannah Heights.
