Class of Housing/Services: The Salvation Army provides emergency and transitional shelter, financial assistance through social services, and meals through bagged food for families.

Services Provided: The Salvation Army provides emergency and transitional shelter, financial assistance through social services, and meals through bagged food for families. Shelter Programs: The Center of Hope operates three programs; Emergency Shelter for transient clients, Transitional Housing for longer term stays, and VA Per Diem program for Veterans. Our longer stay residents are provided with individual case management, drug and alcohol counseling, life skills courses, and budgeting workshops. Feeding Kitchen Hours: 7 days per week. Lunch is served Monday to Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and Sunday 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.  Dinner is everyday from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM. This ministry provides hot meals twice daily for the homeless or anyone in need of a meal.  Breakfast is included for shelter residents only. Social Service Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM by appointment.  Our individual financial assistance helps prevent eviction, power shut-off, utilities, etc. Our social service office also provides food from our food pantry, and clothing from our thrift stores to those in need. Mobile Hope Rural Feeding Program: Every Tuesday our disaster canteen delivers hot meals and food pantry items to the residents of Unicoi County.  Many residents are not able to come to us, but The Salvation Army meets them at their point of need by delivering meals to their homes.  This program thrives on it's community volunteers. Christmas Toy Angel Tree Program: Every year the Salvation Army distributes thousands of presents to needy children in our area.  Help us by adopting an angel, or making a financial contribution.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
