General Information:
Provides emergency and transitional shelter programs for homeless and/or battered women and children. Transportation (including Freedom Drive to transport TANF recipients to work) and a range of case management services are available, including child care, welfare to work program, positive parenting, Start Ahead program (for pregnant women and new mothers), legal, housing, and welfare advocacy, counseling, drug and alcohol programs, computer training, Cars for Success program, and self-help workshops. Welcomes donations of cars (offers tax write-off) and computers. Strengthen Our Sisters is a grassroots, community based, nonprofit, 155 bed shelter program serving homeless/battered women and children. The mission of Strengthen Our Sisters is dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence, poverty, and abuse by restoring balance and harmony through individual empowerment.
