Class of Housing/Services: Transitional Housing

General Information:
We offer an array of programs and services designed to serve individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.    The Program The catalyst of the New Beginnings Affordable Housing Program is to rehabilitate dilapidated homes into quality, affordable single family transitional housing opportunities in a safe environment for low to moderate-income individuals and families. The New Beginnings Program targets the housing needs of female heads of households, single parents, and low to moderate-income families and minorities who are homeless, at-risk of being homeless, or recently discharged from transitional living facilities. The ultimate purpose of the program is to better engage and prepare those who have experienced financial difficulties and hardships to overcome their obstacles by offering them affordable housing, along with supportive services geared towards moving clients from transitional and rental housing to permanent housing and home ownership. Thus, the primary goal of the New Beginnings Affordable Housing Program is to alleviate and/or prevent reoccurring homelessness by providing safe, affordable rental housing in communities that once were dilapidated, substandard, and/or environmentally unsafe. Through the New Beginnings Program there are newly remodeled units available for affordable family transitional rental housing. With each unit designed to hold a family of 5-6, approximately 36 people who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and considered low to moderate-income based upon the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development standards, can be served annually. Successful completion is measured by the ability of a family to retain housing for a minimum of 2 years without eviction or similar crises or dilemmas. Concurrently, housing staff will provide parents with services for budgeting, parenting, employment training, life skills, home ownership, and anger management. By doing so, each program participant will not only overcome homelessness, but will also be better equipped and engaged to accomplish other goals of self-sufficiency, family reunification, and placement in permanent housing after completing the program by making decisions using more analytical applications than before.
