Passages Passages is a 18-month, multi phase transitional housing program that supports single homeless women in their journey from homelessness to stable housing. The program focuses on career development, counseling, financial literacy training, and case managers who help each woman develop a complete plan that leads to employment and permanent housing. Passages brings about lasting change in the lives of women in crisis and helps them build stronger, more productive futures. more Cortez Hill Family Center Cortez Hill Family Center is a 120 day housing program that enables homeless families to regain employment and secure permanent housing while maintaining family unity. The program provides shelter and comprehensive services including legal, counseling, case management and employment services for adults, and special supportive programs for children. more Legal Services The YWCA legal team provides assistance with domestic violence related legal matters, such as restraining orders, divorce, child custody, immigration services and child and spousal support. If you or someone you know is in need of legal assistance, visit one of our free walk-in legal clinics. Becky’s House 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline: 619.234.3164 The Vi McKinney Becky’s House Shelter is a 30-day refuge for women and children in need of immediate protection from domestic violence. The emergency shelter offers a safe, confidential, temporary home where women and children can begin to heal, recover, and rebuild their lives. Becky’s House Transitional Housing comprises three, 18-month transitional living communities for victims of domestic violence. The program provides women with the resources they need to break the cycle of violence, gain self-worth, and secure employment and permanent housing. Becky’s House Transitions is a one-year transitional housing program for families who are survivors of domestic violence. The YWCA partners with landlords to place a qualified client as a tenant, lease the apartment for one year, and work closely with the family to live independently. The program includes life skills training, unit inspections and periodic communications with the landlord to ensure a successful tenancy. Ultimately, families “transition in place” by assuming the lease upon completion of our program.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
