Class of Housing/Services: Transitional Housing, Non Profit Organization

General Information:
This is a Non Profit Organization that provides Transitional Housing. Review the details below: In 1996 Greenfield Housing Associates and Greenfield Public Schools launched a home-school partnership at Oaks Courts Public Housing Complex, under the auspices of the Family Self-sufficiency Program (FSS). For the past 4 years, low-income residents at the complex have been reaping the rewards of this alliance. The center has been housed in the 3-bedroom unit at Oak Courts, where it was moved after the program expanded beyond the needs of the original two-bedroom unit. There, teachers and many of the 70 families of the complex have jointly developed a learning environment that address after-school education, family needs counseling, basic skills and a program dedicated to the empowerment of its residents to reach their long-term goals. The center's goal is to prepare children for success in school and adults to prepare for self-sufficiency. As a tool to build family skills partnership and engage the interest of the children the program was designed to include parents. The FSS program also provides a Child Care Assistance Project that address the problems of working parents who cannot afford the high cost of childcare. Most FSS families are "working poor" families and cannot meet the guidelines of welfare based programs and do not qualify for childcare vouchers. The barrier prevents these parents from entering the full time job market. Our population of low-income, working poor, disadvantaged, underserved, and refugee people have shown us that there is a need for new programs. Our program is about linking people to many kinds of resources so they can learn to advocate on their own behalf. Our residents need more than just a place to live; we must give them and others in our communities the tools that will put them on the road to self-empowerment. Fees may apply for this Transitional Housing resource. Contact Greenfield Housing Associates with the contact information we provided to get full details. Oftentimes you can apply for sliding scale fee payment or other options if you are low income. You will need to speak with them to see if you qualify.
