Inn Between Inn BetweenThe Inn Between is an emergency program for homeless families. Founded in 1985, our original building, a lovely Victorian home, houses six families at a time, and includes one fully handicapped-accessible room. In this program we also maintain a “community room,” available for homeless families who are ineligible for shelter assistance from the state. In addition to the Victorian home in Peabody, the Inn Between program also serves families housed in additional facilities: 6 families are housed at the Inn Transition facility, and an additional 5 are in scattered sites. In total, the Inn Between program serves 17 families at any given time.
Inn Transition Inn TransitionThe Inn Transition, established in 1990, provides a six-month sober-living transitional housing program to 8 families at a time (with one handicap accessible unit). As one of only two transitional housing programs in the state permitting homeless families to remain together when a parent is in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, the Inn Transition serves families from the North Shore and Greater Boston areas. The program offers several support programs and services to help them in their recovery and self-sufficiency. Inn TransitionSober-living transitional housing focused on maintaining recovery, relapse education and prevention, improving parenting and ensuring family preservation. Case Managers work one-on-one with each family to develop a goal-directed self-sufficiency plan. In-house support/educational groups work with building the foundations of improved self-esteem and parenting, moving women from past self-destructive behaviors to finding and acknowledging their inner strengths and abilities. This includes delving into issues related to recovery, relationships, family histories, and past violence or abuse. Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous meetings are attended daily in the local community. Household chores, cooking, and shopping are shared responsibilities, building in the residents a sense of community and improving communication skills. Communal meals offer the sense of belonging and support. Residents receive weekly housing search assistance from a staff Housing Search Specialist. House Manager and Intensive Case Managers coordinate the needs of parent and child with respect to education, employment, legal, physical and mental health, private tutoring with a volunteer, etc. After Care continues for one full year after moving on from our sober-living environment, working with families to ease the transition from our structured, supportive environment to independent living.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless
or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.
Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.
