General Information:
RENTAL SERVICES If you are experiencing a housing crisis, are homeless, or perhaps on the verge of becoming homeless, we may be able to help. The Tenant Services Program helps families who are homeless or near homeless. The Homesearch Program helps homeless individuals and families locate permanent housing and move toward self-sufficiency. Prevention Program helps individuals maintain current housing or seek other housing options to prevent homelessness. FHAS effectively addresses the challenge of homelessness, working directly with homeless persons and local shelters, providing assessment, case management, budget counseling, housing rental and subsidy information to move homeless persons from hopelessness and despair to permanent housing and greater  self-determination. The Tenant Services program is comprised of the $mart Change Program, Second Chance Tenancy, Transitional Housing and Housing Matters HOW WE CAN HELP! Our program helps families and individuals maintain permanent and reliable rental housing. Our services provide tenants with the resources and tools they need to prevent eviction and ensure housing stability. While we do not have attorneys on staff and cannot provide legal advice, we can help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a renter. WE PROVIDE INFORMATION ON:     How your rights can protect you as a renter     Tenant and landlord responsibilities     Housing searches – where to look, how to apply and credit screening issues     Resources available if you are a victim of domestic violence     The eviction process – timelines and procedures     Legal and community resources

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
