General Information:
The Good Samaritan House enriches the lives of homeless women and children by supporting them in a loving Christian environment. While providing safe and temporrary housing, basic human needs and supportive services, the Good Samaritan House offers residents opportunities to enhance life skills, increase self-esteem and become self-sufficient. The Good Samaritan House (GSH) has ten rooms of emergency shelter available for single women with children. The maximum length of stay for each family is 90 days. In addition to temporary shelter families are provided with personal items, access to clothing, transportation and other supportive services. Providing a safe place to live is the primary function of the GSH Emergency Shelter. The length of stay for each resident is determined by:           1. Her willingness to live in the structure set forth in the Resident's Handbook.    2. Her openness and honesty.    3. Her willingness to eliminate destructive behaviors contributing to her homelessness.    4. Her ability and willingness to obtain or maintain employment, go to school and handle her money wisely. The Good Samaritan House Transitional Housing Program (THP) consists of nine units of single family dwellings that are rented from private landlords scattered throughout Madison County. Participants in the THP are selected from among families residing in a Madison County Shelter and who have exhibited the motivation and dedication to permanently change their lives and move from dependency to self-sufficiency. The duration of participation in the program is from 18 to 24 months with six months of follow up services after successful completion of the program.
