General Information:
Miller Community House provides emergency shelter and supportive services to men, women and children experiencing a housing crisis. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for our residents by providing a 30-day shelter with services such as advocacy, information and referrals to area resources and collaborative agencies. Our staff includes a Program Coordinator and a Senior Housing Specialist along with part-time Housing Specialists. The residents have the option of meeting with the Program Coordinator or the Senior Housing Specialist on a weekly basis to establish and implement a plan that includes housing, education, job searching, counseling, financial planning and other goals. Housing is the primary goal for all of our residents due to limitations on the length of stay. The Housing Specialists are available to answer the support line, admit new residents, and provide a supportive environment to the families staying at the shelter. Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are 5 large bedrooms that consist of a shared single female room (up to 5), a shared single men room (up to 5), two large family rooms (up to 7, pending family make ups) and a single family room for two parent households (up to 4). There are large, shared common areas: living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, youth room and outside patio/play area. Food and basic personal items are available for those who need it. On-site case management is provided to ensure that barriers are addressed quickly and a housing plan is initiated. The case management office space is available for private consultation with both shelter staff as well as outside case managers.
