Class of Housing/Services: We help families with minor children who have lost their housing. We can assist families for 30 to 90 days.

General Information:
Homeless Recovery Are you struggling to provide housing for your family? Maybe you’ve lost your job or had medical bills that have drained all your financial resources and emotional energy. We would like to help through the Homeless Recovery program to help you secure employment and permanent housing. This is not a shelter. Instead, your family will stay in churches or synagogues throughout Gwinnett County one week at a time. The congregations convert space in their buildings into private bedrooms for each family, and families move each Sunday. Volunteers provide breakfast, a sack lunch, and dinner each day. Your initial stay is 30 days. If you complete the first goals and adhere to guest guidelines during that time, your stay may be extended 30 days at a time for a maximum of 90 days. During your stay, you will continue your daily schedule. Adults keep going to work, and children stay in school. Family members who are not at school or work can use our Day Center in Lawrenceville. The Day Center has showers, playground, computer room, and prayer garden. If you do not have a car, we provide van service between the host congregation and the Day Center. Your family will be assigned a case manager who will meet with you regularly to create an action plan to return to self-sufficiency. We will help you look for housing, employment, job training and day care. We will help you develop a budget, begin a savings plan, and manage your credit. You can also take advantage of parenting and nutrition classes. Who is Accepted Families must be residents of Gwinnett County. Families may include couples with children, single parents with children, and even grandparents who are caregivers for their grandchildren. Family Promise does not serve individuals or families without children. Emergency shelter for single women and women with children is available through Family Promise’s SaltLight Center. How to Apply An adult member of the family can call 678-376-8950 and ask to speak with a case manager for an initial phone screening. Depending on availability, the next step is a face-to-face interview. The overall process can take five to ten business days. Please be aware that we receive many more requests than we can accommodate. If we cannot help you when you apply, we will do our best to connect you with other community partners who may have availability in their programs.   We partner with inter-faith congregations who provide facilities, volunteers and financial support to assist these families.  Host congregations provide their facility for a week at a time, about once every 3 months. During the day, children go to day care or school, and parents go to work or use our Day Center located behind Lawrenceville First Christian Church. The Day Center has computers with Internet access, phone, kitchen, shower, and laundry facilities. The emergency shelter is at another church in Lawrenceville.
